Observation networks are established to collect environmental data in volcanic areas, such as data of hot springs water quality, volcanic gases, surface temperature, and minor seismic activities. Such networks have significant values in promoting science education. Monitoring data of volcanic activities are also useful in disaster risk prevention and reduction as disaster management authorities can better ensure people's safety with a good knowledge of the latest volcanic conditions.
